Rage Against the Machine

My position here at UTH got slightly more tenuous with Chad launching his brand spanking new UTH Trade Calculator this week.

Personally I don’t get it. Who really wants trade advice at a moments notice based on Chad’s rankings and formatted specifically to your league? Wouldn’t you rather just make the trade and then find out afterwards if we like it or not? Actually, don’t answer that.

Fading the Dallas RBs

With the Dallas RB job wide open Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle are starting to gain some trade value.  But I’m not buying.  Back in April I wrote an article for RotoViz recommending that owners should avoid getting caught up in the hype surrounding whoever Dallas drafts at RB.  The only problem is that Dallas didn’t draft a RB.  Nonetheless, my argument–that much of DeMarco Murray’s 2014 success was built on volume rather than high value touches–remains relevant to the current members of the Dallas backfield, particularly because the talk out of Dallas is a committee approach at the position.  If you own Randle, McFadden or Ryan Williams I would be looking to sell, especially at these prices:

Patience is a Virtue

I’ve seen a couple of these types of moves and I always like them:

Trading a late first for a future 1st is a great way to cheaply improve draft position.  Sure you have to wait a year for the deal to payoff, but you free up a roster spot and improve your draft position at a fraction of the usual price.  Bonus if you’re in a rebuild: you probaly just imporoved your own draft picks’ position slightly as well.  The best time to do this is anytime you can do it, but you may find your leaguemates at their most impatient when you’re on the clock.  Sometimes people get a little carried away in those situations:

Take the Value

This one is a no brainer right?

Well… unless it leaves you completely barren at RB:

Knile Davis as your RB1 will have any owner thinking twice, but in my opinion you’re still better off getting the side of the trade with the most value.  There’s cheap veteran production available at RB, and just like every other year, RBs will emerge from out of nowhere in-season.  Don’t be a slave to positional need; if value is staring you in the face, take it.
